The Call of the Wild

But he is not always alone. When the long winter nights come on and the wolves follow their meat into the lower valleys, he may be seen running at the head of the pack, through the pale moonlight or glimmering borealis, leaping gigantic above his fellows, his great throat a-bellow as he sings a song of the younger world, which is the song of the pack.
The Call of the Wild; Jack London.

Una persona que piensa lo que dice me confesó que le gustan los autores americanos (de los Estados Unidos) por que sus textos son como fotografías. Yo, en el momento, pensé en los imaginistas, en los cuentos de Hemingway, en los personajes de Vonnegut. Hoy, leyendo The Call of the Wild, este comentario regresó a mi mente y de nuevo me pareció acertado:

Dog and man watched it crawling along over the ice. Suddenly, they saw its back end drop down, as into a rut, and the gee-pole, with Hal clinging to it, jerk into the air. Mercedes's scream came to his ears. They saw Charles turn and make one step to turn back, and then a whole section of ice gave way and dogs and humans disappeared. A yawning hole was all that was to be seen. The bottom had dropped out of the trail.

Los puntos del expuestos por Pound sobre la poesía también funcionan con este texto:

1. Direct treatment of the ‘thing’ whether subjective or objective.
2. To use absolutely no word that does not contribute to the presentation.
3. As regarding rhythm: to compose in the sequence of a musical phrase, not in the sequence of a metronome.

El lenguaje no pretende ser poético, no trata de forzar la simpatía del lector. Describe, es directo y claro.
